As many of you probably know, my brother is a senior in high school. This means that I get the pleasure of trips to many colleges! I can never understand anything the people from those colleges say, so I tune it out. One time, as my family and I were listening to someone speak at Marquette, my dad and I got bored and left the room. We decided to go into a room with displays about science, the field my brother wants to major in. We started looking around at the displays, then got talking with one of the professors there. Suddenly, he asked me what I wanted to major in. Obviously I haven't given this much thought, so I kept silent with a confused look on my face. Luckily, my dad spoke up for me, explaining how I was only in 6th grade (at that time). Somehow, I came across as a senior in high school.
Also, this Saturday, I was able to go to Marquette again so my brother and his friend could take a test for a scholarship. This time it wasn't as eventful, though my dad did fall asleep twice while they were talking.
Though these trips to colleges are very boring(I also have to get up early), they are also getting me ready for when I have to go to college. They give me the opportunity to see what colleges are like, and how to react. Not that I pay attention, but you can learn a lot from just visiting.
Thanks for sharing this. If I were your father, I would be so proud that not only are you there for your brother, but you are being very mature about how you can approach what could easily become a chore.
ReplyDeleteIn fourth grade I took some trips to california with my sister for her college, i had a close experiance with yours, my mom and i still joke about that time because while a guy was giving a "let go to your child" lecture we wer searching everywhere for food because we were starving, but it did get me thinking about my future, nice job
ReplyDeleteI remember you telling me that last year! Once I was at the post office, and this British post office person asked me if I wnted to work for him. I replied with: "Can I please have my stamps now." Luckily my dad came in because he was wondering why it took so long for me to buy stamps.Dads to the rescue! I know though, what's with recruiting young folks for jobs so early.
ReplyDeleteThat's so weird, that they thought you were a senior! Luckily I won't have to go to those until I get to go to college. You wrote this very well with very descriptive words.
ReplyDeleteGreat storytelling! The thought of college scares me. I'm glad I won't have to think about it for a few more years.
